Committee votes

Motions were made on the following items by the above committee members:

• The committee voted all in favor for next year’s summer camp to be held at Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia June 17th-23rd tentatively.

• Laurie Ballasso was voted all in favor as the new treasurer for Troop 161. She will be taking the spot previously held by Jack Rassmussen.

• The committee also voted all in favor of moving the troop’s trailer to the location of Mr. Clayton Smith’s work. This is needed for security since the trailer was vandalized. Also, Mr. Smith is currently getting the trailer repaired and said that the estimated damage is around $100.00. The troop voted all in favor to have the damage to the trailer repaired. Mr. Smith will be in charge of coordinating this.

Agenda Items

The first item of discussion was a letter concerning this year’s summer camp at Camp Shands. The letter was addressed to John Ressor with copies to Barry Allred, North Florida Counsel Executive Committee President and John C. Cushman III, Chairman of the Board BSA. The letter explained the troop’s negative experience during summer camp at Camp Shands and voiced some concerns that will hopefully be resolved. It was also pointed out that other troops sent letters as well and that disciplinary actions are already in progress as a result of these issues. Troop 161 will not be returning to Camp Shands next year.

The next item of discussion was the local tour permits. The troop is in need of forms to be updated which include the drivers’ licenses and number of seatbelts per vehicle. These permits are needed for the transportation of the scouts so that all of the scouts will be covered under the troop’s insurance policy if something were to happen.

The next item of discussion was the confirmation of the Court of Honor and Eagle Scout ceremony scheduled for September 26th at 7:00pm-GOP Headquarters. There is going to be approximately 65 people attending the ceremony which includes 10 family members representing the Haire family. The troop will provide the cake, chips, and juice as refreshments. The Haire family will provide additional refreshments. The troop will also provide paper products unless they are specifically designed for Eagle scouts. The scouts will arrive at 6:30 pm to help set up the tables, etc. Decorations for the Eagle ceremony will be provided by the Haire family. The table cloths will be provided by the troop.

It was decided that the Eagle Scout information such as tips etc.., will be included in the troop’s website for future use.
